Review:

Firstly I loved the concept of the book. It’s different and interesting. I loved the thought process of the book. Divided into 26 stories from the lives of Samsher, Shalini and Khurana. The author describes their struggle, their life as a survivor.

The plot of each story is interesting. Each of them has its own depth, it’s own emotion that one can relate to. The conditions that the author described and how they fought is truly inspiring. Some of my favourite stories are The Festival of Light, A New Beginning, The Man Who Watched Trains, Growing Old Together.

The narration of the story is crisp and appealing. One can relate to the story from the very first page. The writing style of the author is simple and lucid. The way he sequenced the stories is commendable. Love, friendship, and various other themes are used by the author making it an interesting story.

The character development done by the author is amazing. loved how he developed strong characters. each and every character played a vital role in the story making it more engaging. I loved Shalini’s character the most.

The pace and the flow of the story are smooth keeping the reader invested in. It’s a quick read with many emotions. I loved the cover and the title of the book. It’s impressive and Attractive.

The book has drama and Dialogues which again keeps the reader connected. I liked the pictures that the author has added.

Desert plant is a metaphor for a survivor. This plant remains green and retains moisture, in spite of growing under an extremely harsh condition in the absence of water. The way the author described the situation is beautiful. There were some places where it was getting a bit tedious but then the author managed to keep the reader hooked well.

Overall, It’s a good book with strong characters, interesting plot and crisp narration. I wish the author best of luck for his upcoming books.

Born in India, educated in India and Canada, Abhijit Ray has spent two decades in pharmaceutical research and development. Abhijit has published several peer-reviewed scientific articles, contributed towards book chapters and edited a book. Desert Plant is his first attempt at fiction writing.
