AND the #Xplorebharat train travels from Thiruvannamalai to Ujjain – Where there’s MAHAKAL the Jyotirlinga. In the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (India Ka Dil), A Few kilometres away from Indore there’s Ujjain an ancient city situated near the Kshipra River, there is the temple called Mahakaleshwar

Writing this article from my recent visit to Ujjain and Omkareshwar with my family. Covering the two of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Few kilometres away from Indore, the two cities are from two different poles so plan your trip accordingly.

well, I will be writing on why I loved Ujjain and some places you can visit around- sooo here we Gooo!!!

How to reach?

You can reach Ujjain via train or can take a flight to Indore. It’s One and a half hour drive from Indore airport. You can take a cab or a private taxi.

Are you a Gulabjamun lover? Isn’t it tempting when you get steaming hot gulabjamun’s to your plate? Well, I loved Ujjain for that. You’ll find some amazing sweets on the streets near the temple. You can have Garma garam Rabdi, Gulab Jamun, Gajar ka Halwa at midnight!

We had our meals near our hotel and I can say in Ujjain, be it any hotel, You’ll get Yummy meal. We had our meals at the hotel Nandi, Rajbhog and at snacks corner. If you’re a Golgappa (panipuri) lover, Do visit a stall near hotel Nandi, They have various flavours of Panipuri.

Well, I loved the food there. Be it snacks or lunch, they have variety and tasty food. MP is famous for wheat. You’ll love the chappatis there.

STAY

There are some amazing stays there. We stayed at OYO ROOM’S Hotel- Nandi. It’s near the temple and in the middle of the market. We enjoyed our stay there. Loved their services and the facilities. It’s a convenient, clean and very good hotel in the city.

Why I loved UJJAIN :

Bhasma Aarti – Mahakaleshwar

The reason why we went there was to attend Bhasma Aarti. It’s the most important ritual there. The aarti that begins at 4 AM. It’s the first aarti of the day. The aarti is performed with sacred ash – Bhasma.

To attend the aarti, one must book it online, or there are counters over there for on thespot booking too. There are certain rules while you attend the aarti. They have the compulsory dress code for men and women. Women’s wear saree and men’s have to wear Dhoti.

You have to stand in the line from midnight to live the experience of Mesmerizing Darshan of Mahakaal Attending the aarti is a completely different experience. It’s the best experience one can ever have.

Places Around Ujjain that you must visit:

Harsiddhi Temple

Well, it is said that one must visit Harsiddhi temple after they visit Mahakal temple. Harsiddhi Mata is painted in dark vermillion colour and is in the centre of Mahasaraswati and Mahalakshmi beside it.

The presence of Shree Yantra which represents nine forms of Durga is one of the characteristic features of this temple.  It’s a beautiful temple which has an Akhand Jyot that is present there for years. Also, this Temple features a pair of tall dark pillars studded with lamps. It’s a beautiful temple that one must visit.

Bade Ganpati

Bade Ganesh Temple houses a colourful statue of Ganesh. There’s a Chintamani Ganpati mandir that you must visit. Do attend the aarti there, it’s beautiful.

Where Liquor is offered to God.
Yes, Kaal Bhairav Mandir is few Kilometers away from Ujjain, located in the outskirts of the town.

There are stalls selling Liquor as Liquor is served to the god and it is believed that good consumes it. Liquor is sold in almost all shops in the premises. A peaceful temple with some monkeys around.

Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar

Omakreshwar has two important temples of Shiva. The Omkareshwar temple and the Mamleshwar Temple.

Omkareshwar is the place you must visit when you go Ujjain. It’s 5-6 hours away from Ujjain and 2 hours from Indore. Mamleshwar is said to be another Jyotirlinga and There’s Thriveni Sangam of river Narmada and river Kaveri in Omkareshwar along with beautiful Shiva’s Temple.

A very beautiful, magnificent, peaceful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. He is called Amleshwar or Mamleshwar here. One has to have a darshan of both Mamleshwar and Omkareshwar to complete the pilgrimage.

You must Stay at Shri Radha Krishna Hotel when you’re in Omkareshwar. This hotel offers wonderful food and pleasant stay. Also, do not miss the Narmada Aarti there.

Well, these are the places that I visited. Any other places to discover there? Do write in comments.Stay here for a while and then visit Tezpur with Sonali
