Review:

‘When life throws stones at us, it is obvious that we become grave diggers rather than gold miners because we will have thousands of reasons to be failures rather than a successor.’

If you ask me to describe this book in a sentence, it would be 49 life lessons that illuminate the path to personal growth summed up beautifully with apt examples and compelling concepts.

Binoy Raveendran’s Just Squeeze It is a collection of 49 articles on various topics like empathy, gratitude, intuition, fire, karma and many others that encourage us to pause and reflect on our actions. This book is like a guide, a conversation with a friend giving us the best life lessons. What I loved most about the book is the examples the author adds in each chapter.  Binoy masterfully weaves inspiring stories about renowned leaders, insightful anecdotes from literature, and thought-provoking quotes into each chapter. These stories don’t merely reinforce the concepts—they breathe life into them, making them memorable and applicable to our own experiences. By grounding deep philosophical ideas in everyday life, he ensures that readers can easily absorb and implement these lessons.

The book’s structure is both thoughtful and engaging. Each article begins with an inspiring quote that sets the tone for the concept that follows. This is complemented by captivating visuals and illustrations that enhance understanding and engagement. Binoy’s writing style is both captivating and straightforward, allowing readers to easily resonate with the messages being conveyed. His ability to simplify complex ideas is not only inspiring but also empowering, encouraging readers to incorporate these lessons into their daily lives.

I found his practical approach to explaining each concept both refreshing and motivating. Opening the book to any article feels like stepping into a moment of reflection and discovery. Among the many treasures within its pages, my favourite articles include “Celebration,” “Leela,” “Vision,” and “Stoic.” Each of these resonated deeply with me, offering wisdom that lingers long after reading.

One quote that particularly stayed with me is from Hasan Al-Basri: “You are nothing but a number of days, and whenever a day passes away, a part of you passes away.” This poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of time underscores the importance of making each day count. It encapsulates the book’s core message—embracing the present, learning continuously, and living with purpose.
