There’s something magical about simple stories that stay with you, not because of high drama or plot twists, but because of the quiet emotions they stir. I Chose to Begin Again by Shreya M.S. is one such story. It’s a light, heartfelt tale about serendipity, healing, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again.
The story follows Anvita and Viren, two strangers who cross paths in the dense forests around Pune. Anvita—shy, soft-spoken, and guarded—is trying to find her way out when she meets Viren, a kind and grounded photojournalist who offers his help. What starts as a brief encounter turns into an unexpected journey filled with warmth, connection, and introspection. From there begins a quiet, slow-burn journey between two strangers. Anvita makes a few rules to protect her heart, but destiny clearly has other plans. A sudden mishap halts their journey and lands them at Viren’s home—and that’s where things begin to shift. What seemed like a straightforward plot slowly evolves into a story of emotions, connections, and finding comfort in unexpected places. It’s here that we meet Sarita Ma—a character who truly steals the show with her gentle affection and quiet strength. Her presence adds a nurturing touch that makes the story feel like home.
Shreya’s writing is simple and captivating. She keeps the tone light and flows smoothly, making this a breezy read with a certain softness that makes you pause and feel the emotions in between the words. The storyline is interesting, with hints of romance and family dynamics. The book flows smoothly and is a quick read, perfect for when you need a comforting escape. However, I did find myself wanting a bit more. The plot feels like it just scratches the surface—like a trailer for a story that could’ve been deeper, more emotionally layered. There are moments that hint at pain, at pasts left untold, and I found myself wishing for more time with the characters, more complexity in their arcs. There’s potential for so much more depth, drama, and emotional layering, more backstory, and more drama to enrich the experience. This could easily be expanded into a full-fledged novel.
The characters are well-crafted and relatable. Anvita and Viren are easy to connect with, and Sarita Ma—Viren’s mother—truly steals the show with her warmth and nurturing presence. She brings a comforting touch that makes this story feel like home. While Anvita and Viren’s chemistry is sweet, I found myself wishing for a deeper dive into their pasts, motivations, and emotional baggage that brought them here. The climax is satisfying, and the message of starting over, of choosing oneself, lingers long after the last page. The story felt like a teaser or a trailer—something beautiful that leaves you hoping for a sequel or an expanded version with deeper exploration of their pasts and the healing that unfolds between them.
I Chose to Begin Again is a feel-good, soul-soothing story about love, letting go, and choosing to start anew. It’s a short, sweet read that leaves you with a smile—and a quiet hope that sometimes, getting lost is just another way of finding yourself.
