Review
“Life has a way of reminding us not to rush through moments that are meant to be lived slowly.”
A rainy weekend afternoon with a light romance novel was exactly what I needed, and 2nd Innings of Love by Ishita Tawadia turned out to be a pleasant companion. If you enjoy stories that feel like a Bollywood romance – light, entertaining, emotional, and straight to the point, this book might be for you. The story follows Vivyan, a successful corporate professional who works for a multinational company while also delivering guest lectures at various institutes. During one such lecture, Ananya falls for him at first sight, something she never imagined could happen. As their friendship grows, Vivyan opens up about his past love story with Naira. Ananya patiently listens, becoming the friend and emotional support he needs, even as she realizes she has fallen in love with him.

While Vivyan struggles to move on from his unfinished relationship with Naira, Ananya becomes the emotional anchor he never knew he needed. Gradually, he begins to see her in a different light. But can someone truly move on from a broken heart? Will Vivyan and Ananya find the happy ending they deserve, or will history repeat itself? What I enjoyed most was the simplicity of the storytelling. The narrative is fast-paced, direct, and easy to read, making it a perfect choice for anyone looking for an uncomplicated romance. The story explores friendship, heartbreak, family expectations, second chances, and the quiet comfort that grows between two people over time. The emotional transitions feel natural, allowing readers to connect with Vivyan, Ananya, and even Naira.
The writing style is simple, conversational, and easy to follow. Ishita keeps the narration straightforward, making the story accessible even for readers who are new to the romance genre. The dialogues flow naturally, and the language never feels heavy, allowing the emotions and relationships to take center stage rather than the prose itself.
For me, this book felt like one of those light-hearted Bollywood love stories that you can simply sit back and enjoy. It doesn’t try to be overly complex or emotionally overwhelming; instead, it offers a cute, straightforward romance that is perfect for a rainy afternoon or a relaxing weekend. What stayed with me after finishing the book wasn’t the twists or the drama, but the comfort it offered. It’s the kind of story you pick up when you want to unwind with a feel-good romance that gently reminds you that love often finds its way when you least expect it.
The characters are well-written and relatable. I especially liked Ananya’s bold and confident personality, although at times she came across as slightly childish. That contrast between mature love and youthful impulsiveness added an interesting balance to the story. Vivyan’s emotional journey from heartbreak to hope was equally engaging, and I found myself rooting for both of them, especially in the final chapters.
I wished the story had delved deeper into its emotional moments. While the fast-paced narrative keeps the pages turning, some relationships and conflicts are resolved a little too quickly, leaving less room for the emotions to truly settle. I also found myself hoping for more emotional intensity and a few unexpected twists. The story remains simple and straightforward throughout, and greater emotional depth would have made the journey even more memorable. The climax is undeniably cinematic, bringing together the emotions, drama, and hope that make Bollywood love stories so memorable.
