Today marks the auspicious occasion of #gitajayanti—a significant day when Lord Krishna imparted the profound wisdom of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. This sacred scripture embodies knowledge that liberates us from the entanglements of the material world and encourages us to surrender to a higher divine power.
Growing up, I had the privilege of listening to the teachings of the Gita from two of the most influential women in my life—my grandma and my mother. They would often share their reflections and insights after reading passages, creating a cherished tradition that ignited my curiosity. Inspired by their passion, It wasn’t long before I began to delve into the teachings myself. Although my reading of the Bhagavad Gita has been sporadic rather than a daily ritual, I have decided to cultivate a new habit: dedicating at least 15 minutes every day to read and reflect on its verses.
After years of listening to and reading the Bhagavad Gita, I have gleaned several invaluable lessons that have shaped my perspective on life:
🌻 Surrender to the Universe:
One of the key teachings is to surrender wholeheartedly to the flow of the universe. The more we let go of control and embrace the unknown, the clearer our life’s path becomes. Surrender doesn’t mean giving up; instead, it allows us to align with a higher purpose and discover our true selves.
🌻 Act Without Expectations:
The Gita emphasizes the importance of performing our duties with a sense of selflessness. When we focus on the action itself rather than the outcome, we free ourselves from disappointment and cultivate a sense of fulfillment in what we do.
🌻 Connect with the Divine Power:
Engaging in practices such as meditation, yoga, and cultivating Bhakti Bhava (devotional love) fosters a profound sense of peace and connection with the divine. These practices not only enhance our spiritual well-being but also bring clarity to our minds in challenging times.
🌻 Embrace Divine Interventions:
The teachings remind us that divine interventions are real. Trusting in the lord’s guidance can transform our lives in magical ways, revealing opportunities and blessings we might otherwise overlook. When we align ourselves with a higher power, we witness the synchronicities that guide us along our journey.
🌻 Fulfill Your Duties Gracefully:
Life inevitably presents us with tasks and duties—some we might enjoy and others not so much. The Gita teaches us to fulfill our responsibilities with grace, regardless of our personal feelings about them. By embracing our responsibilities with grace and commitment, we gain a deeper understanding of our duties and contribute positively to those around us.
🌻 Remember the Lord in Your Actions:
It’s crucial not to lose sight of the divine presence, even amid our daily tasks. By keeping the lord in our thoughts, we can perform our duties with a sense of purpose and divine connection.
🌻 Seek Guidance:
Finally, the Gita encourages us to ask for guidance and develop a friendship with the divine. When we establish this relationship, we often find that our lives regain focus and direction, steering us back on track when we feel lost.
As I reflect on these lessons today, I feel a renewed commitment to not only read the Bhagavad Gita regularly but also to live by its teachings, allowing its wisdom to shape my daily life.
