I wish I knew this earlier that________ (Complete the sentence)

‘It is your attitude and not aptitude that determines your attitude in life.’

From Book Attitude: The Sh*t They Never Told You by Adam Ashton & Adam Jones.

Sometimes we need reminders, to pause and analyze things that are going on in life. This book too came as a reminder for me. My Book 101 of 2023 is an inspiring, thought-provoking read that you can count on. A book that I can go to again and again, and every time I read it, it offers a different perspective.

“Change is inevitable. It is our attitude toward change that will inform whether we experience fear or a deep excitement for what is to come.”

I always think of these lines when someone asks me how can I describe this book.

In “Attitude: The Sh*t They Never Told You,” authors Adam Ashton and Adam Jones take readers on an inspiring and thought-provoking journey through the wisdom of the world’s greatest thinkers, extracting valuable lessons from all aspects of life. Divided into five parts – Vision, Change, Learning, Fear, and Boldness – the authors share insightful stories that compel readers to reflect on their chosen paths in life.

What sets this book apart is its practical approach. It not only tells stories and theories but also offers key insights that prompt readers to consider the clarity of their goals, their commitment to their chosen path, and their readiness to embrace change. There are times when we mould ourselves according to the situations which aren’t needed. Rather than changing the situation, we change ourselves and that is when the authors introduce us to the concept of – ‘The Slight Edge’.

With each chapter, we gain more clarity about the path we are choosing and our attitude towards the situation. It’s straightforward and to the point, teaching us valuable life lessons, and offering a fresh perspective on well-known theories.  The way they explore Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and link it to the ‘work’ context is interesting. They shed light on the daily aspects we often overlook is simply remarkable. Similarly, their insights from Jordan Peterson’s “12 More Rules of Life” are highly motivating and relatable.

They share how a shift in attitude can transform our experiences. It emphasizes how a slight change in our approach can lead to positive outcomes in challenging situations. The way they explain the concepts is commendable. Each of them gives us lessons for life.

Here are the lessons I learned from the Book:

🌻 get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

🌻 you never try, you’ll never know.” Learning means trying new shit, which means stuffing up.

🌻 By embracing boldness, you can take action. Get out there. Tackle it head-on. Refuse to let fear hold you back.

🌻 No matter how large or small, all decisions stem from desire.

🌻 Each path has its own nuances and its unique advantages and disadvantages. Knowledge is about understanding all options – the risks and rewards of each potential pathway.

🌻 Getting to any goal is infinitely easier once we know how.

In all, “Attitude: The Sh*t They Never Told You” is a book that deserves a spot on your reading list. It serves as a valuable reminder to pause, analyze, and reflect on the choices we make in life. It is a must-read for anyone seeking personal growth, self-reflection, and a deeper understanding of the role attitude plays in achieving success and happiness.
