After a long time, I read a thrilling, entertaining, fun story that gives a Bollywood feel. ‘The Pontin Secret’ by Sushila Fonseca is the story of Tina- the current owner of the Ponting Mansion who is in a huge debt trap after her husband passed away. Being the sole bread earner of the family, Tina does her best and gives her children the best life, until one fine day, the bank pressures her to clear the loan. With many things on a plate, she thinks of selling off the mansion where she remembers her husband’s last words about family secrets. With her children still unsettled in their respective lives and Melli as her support, Will the secrets save her from all her problems? How does she begin her search?

With a thrilling, intriguing plot and crisp, descriptive narrative, Sushila weaves a brilliant tale of love, mystery, romance, friendships and relationships. The story begins with a tragic accident followed by the hardships of the family. Sushila’s writing style is simple and engrossing keeping the readers invested in. With every event, the story is shaped differently with unexpected twists and lots of drama.

Each character here has their own emotional journey which Sushila brilliantly narrates making it relatable for the readers. Tina’s children face their struggles and the way Tina directs them is commendable. The plot gets exciting in the later part of the story, where the tables turn. The characters are strong and well-developed by the author, each of them spicing up the story.

I admired Tina’s character, her sharpness and loving nature, and the way she dealt with the problems. One more character that made a place in my heart is Sharmila’s character. The way she tries to control the situation is commendable. Not to forget the blooming love story that again makes the story more compelling and enjoyable.

It’s a smooth-paced story filled with drama and emotions. While the Pontin Mansion seems disturbed by the events happening, Melli too is disturbed because of her doings. I enjoyed her part of the story too, although at times it was going a bit slow, but the circumstances will make readers emotional. A thrilling climax that sums up the story well, giving Bollywood vibes. The climax is surprising and intriguing. The way Tina completes the exciting to read. Not to forget the importance Sushila gives to family and relationships. Alongside Tina, Sharmila too, solves a puzzle which is again interesting to read. This book comes with some lessons too. While we judge others too quickly, sometimes, our impatience has to pay the cost. Tina’s life too became difficult with the mistake she made. This story has many layers, each of them bringing to light a different shade of life.

The Ponting Secret is a heartwarming, mysterious and refreshing read with an interesting plot, brilliant characters and rich narrative. Love reading mysteries? Want to read something light, entertaining and interesting? This is surely the one you can count on.
