Review:

Lord Krishna is needed within us for this. He is patient, love is patient. To love is to see. To see more. To show. To show more. To listen. To hear. To feel. To feel more … To protect. To give solace. To beguile. To unbeguile. To guide. To confuse. To test. To challenge. To bind. To let go. To give. To receive. To hurt. To delight. To attach. To detach. To enable bliss’

Idols by Amish Tripathi and Bhavna Roy is a beautiful book that talks about the questions one has when it comes to worshipping idols. With simple, varied and astute interpretations of myths and religious texts, they discuss how spirituality is different for each of us. It’s a healthy discussion on faith, the importance of religion for people, stories of Lords, the benefits of bhakti, and the philosophy behind the puja and how it leads us to the divine experience. How we experience oneness with God through transformation, acceptance and love.

Candidly narrated with a crisp descriptive writing style, they keep it light and fun while explaining the concepts which are a bit dense but insightful. They make it easy for the readers to connect to. Loved the way the story begins, and how each event shapes our perspective. They discuss various deities and the stories from the Puranas which are interesting and the flow of the conversation is commendable. They add an element of curiosity, and togetherness, celebrate family love and the bond each of them shared.

The characters are strong and brilliantly developed, each adding value to the story. Loved the way each of them looked towards life and their perspective. I loved Lopa’s character the most. Her observations, her explanations everything felt read. The flow of the story is entertaining and full of knowledge which is exciting to read. The way they add cute little moments of self-reflection, and family sitting together and chatting felt blissful. How each deity has its own role in our lives was interesting to read.
