Smita Das Jain’s books are always light and thought-provoking. While she takes us to an adventurous saga of love and romance, I love her realistic approach in her stories.

‘You cannot be sure about the outcome until you try.’

Rishabh is anxious, should he send Sonia a message on her birthday or call? Sonia a strong opinionated, Career oriented lady decides to quit her current organization. What is the reason for her exit? She faces difficulty in her marriage with Sameep as work makes her stay a lot in the office than at home. Mehul a young executive under Sonia loves her a lot. Rushabh admires Sonia a lot. Surrounded by the love she still feels alone! Smita Das Jain gives us a sneak peek into the world of Sonia and her diary.

The plot of the story is simple and intriguing. It’s a story that I finished in one sitting because I couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen next in Sonia’s life. With the crisp descriptive narrative with a smooth engrossing writing style, one could relate to Sonia’s situations and her style of work.

While I loved Sonia’s multi-tasks, I even loved Sameep’s Patience. The way he was patient with Sonia and tried to fix his marriage is something I loved the most. The sudden shifts from present to past and Sonia’s diary entries were engrossing to read. I loved reading the diary entries the most.

While Smita explains the sweet&sour phase of Sonia and Sameep’s relationship and marriage, she also tells about how important it is to appreciate your partner and the little moments of love. Sometimes Relationship is about letting go, true love is about letting ourselves enjoy in that relationship and not letting the other forcefully be in it.

This book has layers of love, adventures and validation I would say. The way Sonia seeks Validation and praise for her work, and her abilities. It also gives a backdrop of office and work culture, being in the higher hierarchy of a big corporate company, and how she tackled the tasks. I enjoyed reading that part too.

It’s a light, entertaining read with we’ll sketched characters. I loved Sameep’s character more than Sonia’s to be honest. While Sonia was the hero of the story, Sameep was the one that made that Hero Shine.

The story gets exciting with every event with the adventures of Sonia I would say. The climax was good, something unexpected to be honest. It’s a fast-paced story with a smooth flow of words.

Overall, it’s a light, refreshing story that you will enjoy over a cup of coffee. An entertaining read full of drama and love.

At the end I had one question for myself, if Sameep did what Sonia was doing, would the story be different or the same Casual? Why do we always hype when a man makes a mistake and take it in a subtle way when a woman does? At the end both of them are human beings then why differentiate?

Summary

Do a stellar academic background, a well-paying job with ample recognition, and a loving life partner imply happiness? Sonia is an ambitious woman working in the country’s most prominent media company. Sameep, her husband, has loved her ever since their IIM-Ahmedabad days. Her direct report, Mehul, idolises her, and her boss, Rishabh, acknowledges her intellectual prowess. But Sonia’s past interferes with the present, making her life—and the lives of those around her—lack balance. Time flies fast but leaves shadows behind. A Price to Love is a contemporary tale showcasing the struggles of making a thriving personal life and a successful career tango in the highly competitive corporate arena…especially if you are a woman.  A romping romance with desires and addled emotions excellently brewed by Smita Das Jain. – Sutapa Basu, Award-winning, bestselling author
