‘People change, circumstances change. How can you have control over it? Love is not mathematics where you can get it right. There are no keys, no answer sheets.’

from the Book World’s Best Girlfriend by Durjoy Datta

Dive into the realm of romance and life’s unpredictable twists as Durjoy Datta weaves another captivating tale, exploring themes of love, career, relationships, family, and friendship in his new book World’s Worst Best Girlfriend. With an engaging plot and vivid narrative, the story delves into Aanchal’s life, her complicated relationship with Vicky, and her journey to success. We witness the struggles of a middle-class family striving to achieve their dreams.

Aanchal is an ordinary girl with big dreams, all she wants is to become rich and fulfill her dreams. Her relationship with Vicky has been full of ups and downs, and she wishes to get admission to SRCC and get a good job. During her vacation at Andamans which she won in a contest, she meets Daksh. A fun-loving guy who has everything and suffers from a breakup. While Daksh has a crush on her, Aanchal doesn’t mind lying to Vicky about her new friend in Andamans.

Two individuals, one full of dreams and one clueless about what to do in life meet and part away, where will life take them? Will they meet again? Will Being a little selfish with what she wants and what makes her happy make her world’s worst girlfriend?

Daksh becomes her lucky charm as her fortunes take a turn for the better. This sparks reader’s curiosity about the twists and turns ahead in their lives. Narrated from both Aanchal’s and Daksh’s perspectives, the story explores the complexities of love and the challenges life throws their way. With each event, the narrative gains excitement as the duo grapples with their personal dilemmas, particularly when they reunite after four years, signaling changes in their lives.

Will that affection they had four years ago for each other bloom into love? Will there be another love story or hate story? Will she choose her career over love? Will he choose her again and again? What makes her the World’s Worst Best Girlfriend?

Here it reminds me to consider the thought, of how a person behaves when they have nothing, and when they have everything tells a lot.

Durjoy Datta’s writing style is captivating, keeping the readers engaged throughout. It touches upon subjects like abusive relationships, life struggles, and making the right choices. The descriptive narrative allows readers to immerse themselves in the story’s settings and emotions. While the book is primarily a romance novel, it also explores the importance of friendships, family dynamics, siblings bond and personal choices. These elements add depth and richness to the narrative, making it more than just a typical love story.

As always, Durjoy crafts relatable characters that resonate with readers. Stepping into the shoes of Aanchal and Daksh,  it makes us realize that life can change at any moment, it’s up to us how we take it.  While Aanchal’s character is compelling, it is Daksh who truly shines, evoking a range of emotions from readers. You will feel angry at Aanchal’s actions and feel proud of Daksh and his approach towards life.  Supporting characters like Vanita, Gaurav, and their families add depth to the story, offering glimpses into the world of male friendships, which is equally fascinating.

Here we also witness how choosing an alternate career in a middle-class family is a big deal and how important it is to have the right mentor. Gaurav and Daksh’s Bond is brilliantly described. The pacing of the story is generally good, with well-timed plot twists and developments that maintain the reader’s interest. Although it occasionally becomes a bit overwhelming with excessive details and predictable moments. Aanchal’s toxic relationship and the abuses she went through could have been portrayed in a subtle way.

It’s a good, well-detailed read that shows us the shades of life and our approach towards the situation. While being with Vicky who was a walking Red Flag, Aanchal cannot see all the Green Flags Daksh has. In her time to heal, and grow in her career, will she lose a gem like Daksh? Will her quest for luxury make her leave the love of her life? It’s a story of Loving, Unloving, and Evolving while facing the challenges life throws at them. It has layers of love, friendship, and romance.

The satisfying climax hints at a conclusion story which will be more exciting as we get to know the fate of their relationship. In all, Durjoy Datta’s World’s Worst Best Girlfriend is a heartwarming read that appeals to a teen audience, offering valuable life lessons amidst its entertaining drama.
