About The Author

Berjis Desai, 64, lawyer and writer, studied at Cambridge and Bombay. A former journalist with a Gujarat daily; he retired as the Managing Partner of one of India’s leading law firms.
He is the author of Oh! Those Parsis and The Bawaji, both have received critical acclaim. Towers of Silence is his third book and first fiction novel.
An ordained Zoroastrian priest, he is acknowledged as the authentic chronicler of Parsi culture. He is married and lives in Mumbai.

Q) Tell us about the idea behind the book?

Based on a true story of an ancient Parsi clan in Navsari over 140 Years.

Q) How much time did it take in the process of writing?

Started many years ago, completed major portion during the lockdown.

Q) What did the process of writing this book teach you?

This was my third book; but first fiction. Very different and slow moving than the earlier ones.

Q) What inspired you to write this book?

Too many stories in my mind.

Q) Which is your favourite part from the book?

Relating to the Sufi saint.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Q) Tell us about your plans? Planning a new book?

‘Navsari Tales’ (non-fiction) in print.

Q) How your life changed after the book was published?

Not Really.

Q) What is a literary success for you?

When several tell you that it was ‘Unputdownable’.

Q) A message for all the readers.

We suffer from the illusion of decision making; and underestimate the extent to which things are pre-ordained.
