Interview with Tom Odu – Author Of Bloody Probe

About The Author

Having been brought up in a household where watching movies from different cultures was a lifestyle, eventually my curiosity regarding their creation got the best of me. First I delved into Screenwriting, where I learned all the intricacies of Story-telling. However, I later found that craft was rather limiting when it came to narration (such as descriptions) as well as character emotional expressions through inner dialogues/thoughts. It wasn’t until after writing my first Non-Fiction book, that I realized I had the muscle to write long-form literature in the 200+ page range. So out of curiosity and after much contemplation, I decided to turn to Creative Writing which eventually led me to Novel writing.

Interview

Q) Tell us about the idea behind the book?

I was at a point in my life where I was only writing stories with male characters, so I thought how would an action-packed crime thriller with a female character look like if it were written by me? Hence I decided to write this story. Of course, initially it was crafted as a screenplay, and then later developed as a novel.

Q) How much time did it take in the process of writing?

About a year and a half from the start of adaptation from screenplay to novel to the finishing of the first draft.

Q) What did the process of writing this book teach you?

Writing a novel is one of the toughest challenges of literary writing. However, once you get over it, you become kind of addicted to want to do it again.

Q) What inspired you to write this book?

I used to write screenplays that I couldn’t produce, so for once I thought why not write a novel that I could put into the market and have it stand as its own product? Hence this first of hopefully many novels to come. Also, after researching some statistics, I realized that women are still the majority readers hence that coincided with my goal of writing a female inspired crime thriller.

Q) Which is your favorite part from the book?

My favorite part of the book is that whole scene inside Blake’s motel room. I hope I haven’t given away any spoilers.

Q) A book that had an impact on you, which helped you in writing this one?

I remember this old Crime Thriller that I read a long time ago called Exit Wounds about British and Jamaican gangsters fighting for power in the streets of UK. It’s an old novel.

Q) Tell us about your plans? Planning a new book?

Oh absolutely, my latest adventure is a forbidden love Young Adult thriller between a young warrior and a Chief’s daughter.

Q) How your life changed after the book was published?

Given that it’s my first book, not much really apart from the accomplishment that I am now officially an Author.

Q) What is a literary success for you?

Literary success for me is to be able to write the stories I as an author wants, and gain a following in the process, but most importantly the freedom to write.

Q) A message for all the readers.

Thanks for all their support and please don’t forget to buy Bloody Probe for their reading pleasure. It’s available on Amazon and Kobo.
