Having never read about Parsi culture, this book intrigued me. If I have to describe this book in a line, it would be a brilliant, well-detailed read filled with mystery and layers of truth.

Berjis Desai in his book Towers of Silence talks about the Parsi clan, over 140 years, From the ancient town of Navsari. He talks about the conscientious back magicians, the plagues and curses, awaiting vultures, Sufi mystics, poignant lovers and a lot more.

Burjor, carried out rituals for his father Rusi’s death. While overcoming the grief, he discovers the uncovered secrets from his mother and grandmother, the rich family history of the Parsi family and the generations.

To be honest, it’s a 400 pages heavy read, with secrets hidden in every chapter. It takes a while for readers to connect the dots at the same time leaving the reader in awe. Berjis, leaves no stone unturned in making this book more and more interesting with its rich history, practices and beliefs.

It’s a story with an intriguing plot and crisp, captivating narration. I loved how Burjor uncovered the secrets and connected the dots. His questions to his mother and grandmother will astound you. Each chapter, each character has a story to tell, a mystery to solve.

With simple language and engaging writing style, Berjis takes us to the lives of Paris families and their situations. Here, you will witness the shades of love, mystery, drama, history mysticism and dark secrets. Each story is intense and the author with his words makes it feel real.

The characters are strong and well developed by the author adding twists and more drama to the story. With each chapter, the author leaves the readers with the feeling of heaviness at the same time making them curious.

It’s a well detailed and well-researched book with a smooth flow of words. It’s a bit slow-paced and heavy read but the author with his words keeps the readers invested in.

This book will entertain you, will surprise you and will leave you with many questions. As the name says, the towers of Silences, the author beautifully unfolds the emotions and the secrets.

A great read.
