It’s book 57 of 2023 and a beautiful read that you can count on. The lines above stayed with me and whenever I think of this book, I remember the above line from the book.

@the_nimki Niharika Nigam’s “3 2 1 Jump” follows the story of Nanki Mehta, who is struggling to balance work, home, and the search for oxygen for her neighbour during the Covid pandemic. The pandemic has taken a toll on Nanki’s mental health as she juggles between her responsibilities. One day, while scrolling through Instagram, she comes across an ad for bungee jumping, which changes her perspective on life when she clicks on it and meets a stranger named River.

The story is brilliantly crafted with a crisp narrative that keeps readers engaged throughout. Niharika’s writing style is candid and to the point, the theme of spirituality is consistent throughout the story, and Niharika seamlessly weaves it into the narrative.

The portrayal of Nanki’s relationships with her partner, neighbours and grandfather is touching, and one could feel the fear of Covid and losing loved ones. The way Niharika describes Nanki’s emotions is beautiful, and each chat with River is precious, providing readers with a profound understanding of life.

The story is well-paced with a compelling storyline, and readers can feel the fear and uncertainty of Covid and the fear of losing loved ones. Readers are taken on an emotional roller-coaster ride.
Nanki’s determination to find herself through her interactions with River is inspiring.

The last few chapters are particularly interesting as Nanki embarks on a solo trip to Rishikesh to meet River and is ready to jump from the edge. The characters are well-developed, and Nanki’s determined personality and will to find herself are truly inspiring. River is the star of the story. The climax is satisfying and thought-provoking and ties the events of the story together well.

Overall, “3 2 1 Jump” is an emotional roller coaster ride that explores the themes of spirituality, self-discovery, love, friendship, and emotions. Niharika keeps the story candid and appealing, making it a must-read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspiring and heartwarming read.

Summary

What would the Bhagavad Gita look like if it played out today? When a perfectly average life is halted abruptly by a deadly virus on the loose, it brings together some unlikely pairings.
Nanki Mehta, isolating from Covid as it decímates the city lying outside her doorway: A cold night paralysed by the chaos of delhi.
A Bungy Ad.
And a conversation that spans the distance to the mountains of Rishikesh, and to what it truly means to be alive. Especially when it comes with the burden of such privilege: that of being spared amidst a storm.
This is a tale of morality and duty; and of authenticity and belonging, as experienced in the world of this time.
But mostly, this is a tale of how Godliness can still always be found in’the unlikeliest of times and places. One step at a time.
