Review

“Sometimes, walking back is the toughest part of life — but tonight, she had to.”

Some books just stay with you,  making you reflect on the life you’re building, the love you’re giving, and the dreams you’re following. Tara – The Dream Chaser by Nelofar Currimbhoy is one such book, truly an unputdownable read that lingers long after the last page. It’s not just a story; it’s a journey of courage, choices, and chasing purpose. It’s one of those rare books that feels cinematic yet deeply intimate, and its echoes stay long after you close it.

Reading Tara – The Dream Chaser made me pause and think about how often we stay where we no longer belong, out of fear, comfort, or attachment — and how freeing it feels when we finally choose ourselves. Tara’s journey reminded me that chasing dreams isn’t always about ambition; sometimes, it’s about healing, rebuilding, and creating a world where your heart feels at home. This book isn’t just about a princess; it’s about every dreamer learning to walk through uncertainty with grace. And maybe that’s why, even after closing the last page, I found myself whispering – “You won’t find a new world; you have to create one.”

It’s the story of Tara, the Princess of Jaivangarh, whose life is far from a fairy tale, a modern-day princess trapped in the illusions of royalty. At first glance, Tara seems to have it all – a royal lineage, privilege, and power. But beneath the glittering façade of the palace lies a web of deceit, secrets, and betrayal. When she discovers the harsh truth, her only choice is to escape, not just the palace walls, but everything she once called home. Her flight takes her to Mumbai, the city that never sleeps – a place that becomes both her battleground and her sanctuary. Here, she meets Kabir, a photographer whose art mirrors his soul — raw, observant, and quietly strong. He becomes her anchor, her calm in chaos. Together, they navigate love, loss, and life’s unpredictable storms. Two souls trying to make sense of life, one on a mission to save her people, the other simply wanting to love and protect her. But just as she begins to rebuild, the entry of superstar Vivan Mehta changes everything, adding complexity, conflict, and layers of intrigue to Tara’s world.

Tara’s path is not an easy one. It’s messy, emotional, and full of risk. It’s dangerous yet empowering, and in breaking the rules that once bound her, she rises brighter than ever before. What stands out most is her determination to rise, to create her own world, and to reclaim her identity, no matter the cost. The plot unfolds like a river, calm on the surface but with deep, unseen currents beneath. What begins as the story of a princess escaping her palace soon transforms into something far more layered, a tale of survival, identity, and the quiet rebellion of a woman determined to write her own destiny. Nelofar weaves a story rich in love, loss, friendship, politics, and the cost of chasing dreams. With her crisp, descriptive narrative and captivating storytelling, she keeps readers hooked from the very first page. The story unfolds with layers of emotion from Tara’s royal past and turbulent present to Kabir’s own journey of healing. Their relationship evolves through raw, heartfelt conversations that touch the soul.

She brings together two contrasting worlds, royalty and reality and makes their collision both thrilling and thought-provoking. Her descriptive style paints vivid imagery, from the quiet opulence of Jaivangarh to the bustling, soulful energy of Mumbai. Every twist feels purposeful, and every character adds texture to Tara’s world. The story flows between two timelines, Tara’s present in Mumbai and her haunting past in Jaivangarh, and Nelofar handles these transitions with a fluid grace. The shifts never feel abrupt; instead, they deepen our understanding of who Tara is and why she fights so hard to create her own space in a world that often tries to define her.

Nelofar’s writing is honest, immersive, and vivid. She paints Tara’s struggles and triumphs with such authenticity that you feel every emotion she experiences. I particularly loved how she adds just the right amount of drama and dreaminess, making the story both intense and delightful. Through her words, we live Tara’s Mumbai life — her courage, her loneliness, and her unshaken determination to rise again. What truly stands out is how the story balances drama and depth. There’s the tension of royal politics and betrayal, the glamour and chaos of Mumbai, and at the same time, the fragile beauty of human connection.

Every chapter adds a new dimension, sometimes through a revelation, sometimes through a simple moment of dialogue between Tara and Kabir that stays with you long after. The pacing is sharp and cinematic, yet the emotions are raw and real. Nelofar builds suspense through quiet moments rather than loud twists, making the story emotionally immersive. You find yourself waiting to see not just what happens to Tara, but how she chooses to rise above it all. Nelofar doesn’t merely tell the story of a fallen princess; she narrates the transformation of a woman who learns to create her world from scratch. The story, at its core, is about reclaiming agency, rediscovering purpose, and redefining love — not as possession, but as strength.

What makes this book truly special is the emotional layering. Every chapter unfolds like a revelation, about Tara’s resilience, Kabir’s quiet strength, or the moral dilemmas that come with power and love.  The soul of the book lies in its characters. Tara is both fragile and fierce, a woman who breaks free from tradition, guided by conscience rather than convention. You root for her, even when her choices are uncertain, because they are real, human, and full of heart. Kabir, on the other hand, is the embodiment of emotional stability, an artist with quiet strength and rare sensitivity. His relationship with Tara is built not just on romance but on understanding, respect, and shared vulnerability. Their conversations are beautifully written, filled with introspection and warmth. Then there are the supporting characters — Vivan Mehta, complex and unpredictable; Rustom, whose wisdom lights up the story; Divya, the friend everyone needs; and Rajmata, a symbol of power and control. Each adds a distinct flavour together; they form a complete emotional spectrum of love, greed, loyalty, and redemption.

The dialogues are meaningful, the tone reflective yet dramatic, and the alternating timelines add remarkable depth — allowing us to see how the girl who fled the palace slowly transforms into a woman who learns to stand tall, not because she has to, but because she chooses to. At its heart, Tara – The Dream Chaser is about freedom from expectations, lineage, and self-doubt. It’s about a woman rediscovering her voice in a world that constantly tries to silence it. It speaks of dreams that demand sacrifice, of relationships that challenge us, and of the courage it takes to rebuild from nothing. What I personally loved is how Nelofar doesn’t idealise her protagonist. Tara isn’t perfect; she falters, questions, and even breaks down, but that’s what makes her powerful. Her story becomes a mirror for many of us who are still learning that sometimes, walking away isn’t weakness, it’s the beginning of finding your own strength.

Tara-The Dream Chaser is more than just a story about a princess. It’s about every woman who dared to redefine her life, every person who walked away from comfort to build something meaningful. Nelofar Currimbhoy weaves a tale that’s cinematic in its setting, yet deeply spiritual in its message. It’s fast-paced, emotional, and layered with insights about love, loyalty, and the price of freedom. The climax, though unexpected, leaves you with a gentle smile, the kind that comes from closure and hope. In all, this book is a beautiful blend of drama, depth, and dreams. A story that celebrates the power of starting over, the courage to chase what matters, and the light that never fades, no matter how dark the night.

Tara will shine for a long time — not just as a character, but as a reminder that even broken wings can learn to fly again.
