•our paper boats, safely hidden in the pages of our notebook, had set sail under our watchful eyes to some destination unknown.•

Recently, I picked up this book and trust me it has some mind-blowing short stories, that peek into the world of everyday people who often go overlooked.

Breaking Free by Ayan Chakraborty has 15 thrilling stories that you are going to enjoy reading.

With varied themes like mystery, friendship, reflections, woes, loss and adventure, each story has a unique plot and is intriguing. Loved the way the author picks up different scenes from the life of people like a father who is finding his daughter, when a school teacher begins to have nightmares, how far will a bank employee goes to prove his hate for technology, to a girl who meets a man who writes about dead people and many such interesting scenarios.

With each story, the author makes the readers more curious. Each storyline comes as a surprise for the readers. The stories are crisp, quick and to the point. While one could relate to the situation, Ayan with his words excites the readers, to solve the mystery. With a crisp descriptive narrative and an enthralling writing style, these stories are too compelling. While some stories will make you feel nostalgic, some will excite you, while some stories make you witness the uncertainty of life, some will make you emotional.

Each story tells about the emotional landscapes of individuals and their innate nature of attempting to break free of their bonds and situations. The stories are entertaining and to the point. What I loved most is the appropriate ending. While he kept it short, he did not rush to end stories.

The stories are entertaining and to the point. What I loved most is the appropriate ending. While he kept it short, he did not rush to end stories. Each story had a mix of drama, twists and a proper climax giving a delightful experience. The stories have vibrant backdrops and are fast-paced along with strong characters.

My favourite stories are Nicole’s wish, stories at sharp turns, the passenger, and Breaking free.

It’s a light, refreshing read that you can count on.
