Q) Tell us about the idea behind the book?

‘Young Detective’ is a collection of one dozen mystery stories. At the end of each short story there is a question for the readers. The answer to this question solves the mystery. All the mysteries can be solved by reading the stories carefully and giving attention to details, facts and simple logic.

Q) How much time did it take in the process of writing?

Around 5 years.

Q) What did the process of writing this book teach you?

It has taught me to be patient and think out of the box.

Q) What inspired you to write this book?

During my long teaching career, I was once invited by a reputed school in Delhi, India to guide the gifted students. It was a pleasure teaching Mathematics to the gifted students. After getting good feedback from the students the principal requested me to take remedial classes for the students who failed in Mathematics. This was a challenging job for me since the students did not show any interest in learning. I tried different methods but all were futile. It was then that the idea of mystery story telling struck me. They enjoyed solving the mysteries which developed their logical and reasoning skills. As a result, they started taking interest in Mathematics as well.

Q) Which is your favourite part from the book?

“The Laptop” is my favourite story since it is not an imaginary story. I experienced it during my teaching career.
