It’s surely a heavy read with many concepts to absorb I would say, but at the same time, it’s intriguing and thought-provoking as well. There’s so much to learn here.

I finished reading this interesting book that has stories about the Human Minds. yes! As the cover and the title says, mysteries of mind by @authorsunilmishra discusses many key topics like the definition of self, happiness, memory, superstition, empathy, procrastination and how to overcome it and many others. While the author tells about various scenarios and concepts, he uses verses and references from Bhagawad Gita, quotes from various personalities, books and their experiences. I loved the chapter on Languages, how language plays an important role and the experiments with language Deprivation.

It’s an intriguing book with a crisp and gripping writing style. One could relate to the situations, stories and examples he sets for the readers. What I loved most about the book is his practical approach. A little change of habit can do wonders and here he explains how our brain is constantly filled with information and how to stop our minds from drifting.

• with the gift of choices, we get the bane of responsibilities.•

It’s a book that will make you think. Yes, the author makes the readers curious with his questions. Another thing that I loved about the book is the way it is structured. The key takeaway points at the end of each chapter are helpful. He tries to blend approaches of different disciplines like philosophy, psychology, spirituality and neuroscience along with ancient Vedic civilisation and the modern computer age. The way each chapter starts, with a quote and a scenario, is amazing, he captures the reader’s attention there.

Summary

Does the mind meet the body or does abstract meet concrete? It appears, they don’t; they exist in different domains, speak different languages and work on different principles. Scientists study the human body and philosophers talk about the mind, but they hardly cross their paths, ever. Yet, the fact is that life happens when our mind and body come together. The mind can’t exist without the human body, and our body is practically dead without consciousness. With the above perspective, Mysteries of Mind is an enquiry from different disciplines like philosophy, psychology, spirituality and neuroscience. The book tries to blend approaches of different streams on topics like defining ourselves, search for happiness, memory, love and affection for others, superstition, language, free will, mindfulness, procrastination, attention, emotions, illusion and future of mind. These are the things that make us human, yet we know so little about them. These topics have been key points to ponder from the ancient Vedic civilisation to the modern computer age. The book has stories of human minds, interesting psychological experiments, and underlying scientific explanations from neuroscientists. All these incidents and experiments help us to understand ourselves better and make the right decisions to leverage our potential of our mind fully.
