Review

“The virtues that matter are the ones that have so thoroughly organized our daily life that they operate without being called.”

There are books you know exactly how to approach before you even open the first page. Journey to Infinity Within by DevSingh wasn’t one of them. Right from its title and cover, it gives the impression of being a deeply spiritual read. While that expectation wasn’t wrong, what surprised me was the many directions the book takes- from the author’s personal journey to mythology, saints, philosophy, scriptures, and life lessons. By the end, I realised I had read something far more layered than I had anticipated.

The book begins with DevSingh’s own spiritual journey – how he discovered his calling, the obstacles he encountered, and the experiences that shaped his path. One of the recurring ideas that stayed with me is how the universe constantly sends us signs and interventions; the real question is whether we are paying enough attention to notice them. What makes this journey interesting is that it comes from someone who has balanced a professional life alongside his spiritual quest, making many of the reflections feel grounded in everyday reality rather than distant philosophy. The idea that resonated with me was that spirituality doesn’t necessarily require withdrawing from worldly life. Through various examples and teachings, the book suggests that one can pursue spiritual growth while fulfilling everyday responsibilities – a perspective that felt both practical and reassuring.

DevSingh’s is crisp and accessible, making spiritual concepts easy to understand. Rather than following a traditional narrative, the book unfolds through personal reflections, teachings, and stories. This makes it easy to read a chapter at a time; however, the constant shifts between topics made the overall reading experience feel less cohesive. Almost every page offers an insight that makes you pause, reflect, or look at familiar stories from a different perspective.

What I appreciated was that the book unfolds almost like a three-part journey. It begins with the author’s personal spiritual experiences, gradually moves into the teachings of great spiritual masters across different traditions, and finally concludes with stories and reflections that connect timeless virtues to our everyday lives. From there, the book broadens into discussions on spiritual masters and saints who have shaped humanity’s understanding of consciousness and devotion. DevSingh writes about bhakti poets like Kabir, Meerabai, and Tulsidas, alongside great teachers such as Buddha, Mahavira, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh (Osho), Swami Chinmayananda, Swami Ramdas, and Neem Karoli Baba. He also explores the teachings of Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, and Jesus Christ, presenting them through a spiritual rather than religious lens.

I particularly liked how the author brings together wisdom from multiple spiritual traditions. Rather than limiting spirituality to one faith, he shows how the search for truth, compassion, and self-awareness is universal. One section I particularly enjoyed was the chapter on the Divine Mother (Shakti). The way the author describes feminine divine energy felt both powerful and moving. I also loved reading about the Devi Mahatmya (Durga Saptashati/Chandi Path) and its significance. It was one of the most enriching parts of the book for me. The latter half shifts towards stories and beliefs that illustrate timeless virtues. Through episodes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Krishna’s life, the story of Dhruva and the Pole Star, Shabri’s berries, and stories from Buddha’s life, the author highlights lessons on patience, devotion, generosity, sacrifice, humility, and faith.

My favourite section, however, was the final part of the book. Here, every human emotion is paired with a story and a lesson. Pride and arrogance, for example, are explained through Duryodhana’s journey in the Mahabharata, showing the devastating consequences of unchecked ego. Similar reflections explore compassion, attachment, greed, forgiveness, and other emotions, making this section both practical and thought-provoking.

Journey to Infinity Within is a thoughtful read for anyone looking to explore spirituality beyond the surface. Whether you’re curious about the lives and teachings of saints, bhakti poets, spiritual masters, scriptures, or the wisdom hidden within mythology, this book offers a wealth of perspectives to reflect upon. While the language remains accessible, the sheer breadth of ideas means it’s best approached slowly, allowing yourself time to absorb and reflect on each section.

This is the kind of book that’s best read slowly, allowing yourself time to pause and reflect after every few chapters. While it didn’t completely work for me as a continuous read, I can certainly see myself returning to specific chapters whenever I’m looking for clarity, inspiration, or a different perspective.
