•if you execute something which is not easily understandable – it indeed will look like magic to people.•

It’s been a while since I read mythological fiction and this book was surely refreshing when it comes to one of my favourite genres.

I finished this brilliant read by Mr Raghuchandra K R! It’s the story of Purukutsu, a famous king in the Ikshvaku Dynasty who was married to the sister of Nagas Narmada.

It’s a story of Purukutsa and the life he lived during his exile. He lived in the country on the bank of the River Varadha – Amara Prastha under the governance of King Vidhaata.

King Akshina declared war against Amara Prastha and king Vidhaata asked Purukutsa to start planning for the war.

Lil did they know, Akshina is coming to seek revenge from Purukutsa. Why? What made him seek revenge?

It’s an interesting tale of Purukutsa, describing Narmadha about the war and his past. Purukutsa is the great-grandfather of Sri Rama.

I loved the plot of the story. Crisp, gripping and to the point. The way he narrates the war strategies is enthralling. It’s a quick fast-paced read making readers curious about their next steps.

The way the events took place made it exciting for the readers. The way Purukutsa planned it out along with Sukarma and the strategies they came up with will amaze the readers.

It’s an entertaining read with lots of drama and thrill. The gripping captivating writing style of the author keeps the reader invested in.

While Purukutsa’s strategies were thrilling, knowing about his past was more mesmerizing. His conversation with Narmada and the old lady played a great role in the story.
The characters are well-developed by the author. While I loved Purukutsa’s character, I liked the characters of Sukarma, King Vidhaata and the old lady. How their part made the story more intense.

It’s an interesting journey with an astounding Climax.

What I loved most is the details. The way he vividly describes the strategies, the royal secrets and the powers and of course the War. It makes the readers think about the architecture during those times.
How they preserved nature and how nature became their strength.

I enjoyed reading every bit of the book. Especially the way it is narrated.

If you like reading mythological fiction this is a quick read you can count on.

Summary

Purukutsa was a famous king in the Solar (Ikshvaku) Dynasty. He was the eldest son of Mandhata and Bindumati. It is believed that the Nagas took the help of this valiant king to defeat Mauneya Gandharvas. The Gandharvas had defeated and conquered the land of Nagas. For saving their kingdom, Nagas gave Purukutsa their princess Narmada Devi in marriage. The Ashramavasika Parva in the Mahabharata states that after ruling the kingdom successfully for several years, Purukutsa and Narmada Devi went to a forest near Kurukshetra and attained Moksha after performing intense austerities. This book is an attempt to bring up an imaginary story of how Purukutsa would have lived his life during his exile and bring him to light. This book is also a result of a lot of research and mythological facts. Also, I have done an honest attempt not to tweak any history but imaginary sub-stories have been drawn out of the scene/situation. Not to forget, Bhagavan Sri Rama was born in the Ikshvaku dynasty. Thus Purukusta is a great-great-grandfather of Sri Rama.
