At the recent Paperbacktalks Lit Fest, I had the pleasure of meeting @typewritertalkies, who introduced me to a fascinating Japanese concept—the Red String or Red Thread Theory.

Our encounter began with her writing a heartfelt poem for me. In the poem, she mentioned “red strings,” sparking my curiosity. She went on to explain this beautiful idea: an invisible red string ties us to our soul connection—a bond that transcends time, distance, and circumstances. This string, unbreakable and destined, simply knows—just like the connection itself does.

She went on to explain the belief in an invisible red string that connects us to our soulmates, a thread that transcends time and space. This concept suggests that no matter the distance or circumstances, this string guides us towards our true connections with others. It’s a beautiful notion of fate and destiny, highlighting how the connections we make with certain people feel like they are meant to be—almost instinctual. The idea of a bond that “just knows” resonated deeply with me, and it added a layer of richness to our discussion about relationships and human connections.

It’s a poetic reminder that some connections are meant to be, guided by an unseen force that unites us with those we’re destined to meet. Have you ever felt this kind of inexplicable connection with someone?
