“2040: The Battle for Life” by Sanjay Mittal is a gripping thriller that takes readers on a thought-provoking journey into a not-so-distant future. Set in the year 2040, the story follows news anchors Rohit Singh and Priyanka Grover from the MwM channel as they report on a global crisis.

The plot of the book centres around international emergencies, terror attacks, climate change, and the advancements of future technologies. Terrorists have strategically planted bio-terror viruses and nuclear weapons in cities across the globe, threatening to eradicate “impure” individuals. Rohit, Priyanka, and Colonel Vikram leading India’s psy-ops, become pivotal figures in the fight against this imminent threat. Amidst their updates to the audience, they strive to maintain hope and balance the news with positivity.

Sanjay Mittal crafts an intriguing storyline, blending elements of action, adventure and moments of love between Rohit and Priyanka. The narrative is crisp and descriptive, ensuring readers are fully immersed in the world of 2040. It’s a fast-paced book, with a roller-coaster of events that keep readers eagerly turning the pages unveiling new layers of suspense with each chapter.

Sanjay incorporates thought-provoking concepts, such as the creation of human clones and the occurrence of global emergencies, shedding light on the possibilities and challenges of a future world. Sanjay’s practical approach to these topics adds depth and authenticity to the story, and the presence of hope within the story provides a refreshing perspective.

The descriptions are vivid, allowing readers to vividly imagine the events and settings. While the story can be heavy and intense at times, due to its detailed descriptions and multitude of events, it is balanced by Rohit’s skillful navigation of challenging situations, which adds an intriguing element to the story.

The characters in “2040: The Battle for Life” are well-developed and bring richness to the narrative. Rohit and Priyanka’s roles as news anchors bring an air of authenticity to the story, and their evolving relationship adds an emotional depth that resonates with readers. The last few chapters of the book are particularly enthralling, building up to an intriguing climax that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. The resolution ties up loose ends and provides a satisfying conclusion to the story, leaving readers with a sense of fulfilment. I did wish to know more about Rohit and Priyanka’s future.

With its well-rounded characters, intricate plot, and meaningful exploration of important themes, the book offers a rewarding experience.
