Review
“Nothing prepares you for the world like running a one-woman show.”
I picked up this book purely because of its cover and the vibe. I was in the mood for something light, thrilling, and entertaining, and honestly, it turned out to be one of the best weekend reading decisions I’ve made recently. This is one of those books you simply can’t put down. It promised something light, fast, and entertaining, but what I didn’t expect was how effortlessly it would pull me in.
Set in the heart of Delhi’s nightlife, the story unfolds under flashing lights, loud music, and a constant sense of unease. Delhi Disco by Shikhar Goyal follows Sameera, a young woman determined to revive Kapital, the club her parents built with immense hard work. Just as things begin to fall into place, Neil – her ex-boyfriend re-enters her life, hoping to win her back, and quickly realizes that the only way to reach her heart is through Kapital. But while love begins to rekindle, someone is quietly watching everything unfold, and that’s where the mystery begins. There’s glamour, yes, but it doesn’t hide the chaos; if anything, it amplifies it. The disco isn’t just a setting – it becomes a space where lives intersect, secrets surface, and things slowly begin to unravel.

What stayed with me was this contrast. How something that looks so vibrant on the outside can carry so much tension within. I think what made this story work for me was not just the mystery, but the constant undercurrent of tension. There was always this feeling that something wasn’t right, even in the calmer moments. The plot is layered and engaging. Alongside Sameera’s journey of stepping into her parents’ legacy, we get glimpses of her parents, Harsh and Maya – their lives, struggles, and story. We also meet Alex, who carries his own emotions for Sameera and his own motives. Each character adds depth and perspective to the narrative. Just when things seem to settle, unexpected incidents begin to shake both her personal life and the club, and as everything turns uncertain, Inspector KK steps in, becoming a crucial force in unraveling the mystery.
Shikhar Goyal’s writing style is crisp, engaging, and vivid and immersive, making it easy to slip into the world he creates. The narrative flows smoothly, shifting between characters and perspectives without losing clarity, which keeps the reading experience engaging. There’s a certain sharpness in the way scenes are written, nothing feels dragged, yet everything feels detailed enough to picture.
With every chapter, the suspense deepens, and just when you think you’ve figured things out, the plot shifts. I found myself constantly guessing and still being wrong and I loved that. There was even a moment where everything seemed to fall into place, where Sameera’s life finally felt like it was settling, but was it really perfect? That question lingered, because even in that stillness, something felt quietly unsettling. The tone remains balanced throughout, blending drama, emotion, and suspense without ever feeling overwhelming. Each twist adds new dimensions, keeping the narrative dynamic and the reader constantly engaged.
The pacing of the book works in its favor. It’s smooth and consistent, keeping you hooked without rushing through key moments. Each chapter adds a layer, building anticipation while giving space for the characters to grow and the story to breathe. The characters, especially Sameera, stand out strongly. The way she holds herself together and rebuilds her life is truly admirable. Inspector KK adds a quiet strength to the narrative, and the warmth of Sameera and Emily’s friendship brings a sense of grounding. Alex’s journey adds another layer of vulnerability, making the story feel more real and relatable. Another character that really stood out to me was Gyan Singh. The way he carried himself and approached his work added a quiet intensity to the story. There was something about his presence that felt grounded yet intriguing, and it stayed with me even after I finished reading.
The story keeps getting more gripping with each chapter, and the climax genuinely surprised me. It’s one of those endings that makes you pause and process everything you just read. It ties together the threads in a way that feels both unexpected and satisfying. Much like a Bollywood film, the story carries a certain dramatic intensity and emotional depth that keeps you engaged till the very end. Through Alex, we get a glimpse into the bond Harsh and Maya shared and the way they had built everything. Through Sameera, we see how deeply she wanted to carry her parents’ legacy while also navigating the reality of people being around her for the wrong reasons. This contrast added another layer to the story, making it even more compelling to read.
In all, Delhi Disco is a compelling mix of drama, love, friendship, ambition, and suspense, wrapped in a fast-paced and engaging narrative. It’s not just about uncovering what’s happening, but also about understanding the people at the center of it all. If you’re looking for something light yet thrilling, entertaining yet layered, this is definitely a book you shouldn’t skip.
