Short stories have always been my quick escape, especially on a hectic day. My book 130 of 2023 has been a light, delightful read, you can count on.

The stories are light, fast-paced and entertaining with unexpected twists, making us taste the hues of life.

Life has its own ways of teaching us, giving us a reality check. Vandana Srivastava’s, The Unforeseen is a collection of 12 heartwarming stories telling us how different and difficult life is. With varied themes of love, loss, trust, greed, judgments, fear, belief and family, she weaves the tales of hope, change, and courage teaching us how quickly we form an impression for someone without knowing their part of the story.

Each story has an impressive plot with a crisp, gripping narrative. The stories are loose-ended and unique in their own ways. While some will make readers smile and nostalgic, some will make them realise the mistakes they might have been making unknowingly and how unpredictable life is.

Vandana’s writing style is immersing and relatable making it easy for the readers to relate to the stories. The Mesmerizing short stories have their own depth and make a place in the reader’s heart.

Vandana, with her words, makes each story exciting and content, making readers experience the situation the protagonist is in. The characters are well-developed and add richness to the stories. The stories are light, fast-paced and entertaining with unexpected twists, making us taste the hues of life.

While there are many stories, these are my few favourites from the book. We learn here to not trust someone’s opinions quickly with the story ‘Trust’,  Get to know how each one of us goes through a journey which is unknown to the other and the way we form certain bonds which are nameless but are strong in the story ‘Misery’, know about the unknown sacrifices people around us makes for our happiness in ‘Love’, How greed and doing bad to others can take you nowhere in the story ‘Greed’.

Each story has its own journey and Vandana portrays the emotions well. Be it Varun’s love for Grandpa or Rehana’s realization and facing the reality of life. Cherry’s moments of happiness or Sonya’s blind trust, these tales are beautiful on their own, making readers witness how life can change at any moment.

The stories are loose-ended making readers wonder what can go next and that felt satisfying here. Vandana concludes each of them beautifully making readers experience each story.

In all, The Unforeseen by Vandana Srivastava is a collection of captivating short stories with compelling characters and many lessons. Want to read some light and delightful stories? This book is indeed a good choice.
