Book 16 of 2023 and it’s another inspiring read. Sometimes, we need to speak up, and start with small changes. The thought to bring a change itself makes a lot of difference.

Broken Anvils by Rohith Agarwal is a story of Jeevan who came a long way, away from home in search of Work.

Set in the western part of India, in the ship-breaking Yard, Jeevan started working. At an unknown place, among unknown people, Jeevan started working, with the hope to earn and send money to his family back home.

While he starts working, Jeevan notices how the labourers were treated, they did not get the facilities that the government provided, the corruption and the amount of respect they got.

Slowing learning about the work and how things at the Yard work, Jeevan’s life took a turn. From learning Hindi to making friends, and becoming a friend in Need, author Rohith brings out the personal and social status of the workers into the light.

With a gripping descriptive narrative and an engrossing plot, author Rohith with this story gives readers a different perspective.

With every event, the story gets interesting, the turns Jeevan’s life took and how he changed as a person over the years. The simple and riveting writing style of the author keeps the readers invested in. One could relate to Jeevan’s situation and the way he evolved as a person. It’s a heartwarming story that shares the struggle every worker faces.

The characters are strong and well-developed by the author. One needs a friend like Satya who helps one find a way, A companion like Darpana who stays like a rock-solid support. Jeevan, our hero here had his struggles and Hard days. The way he comes out of it, and his approach towards the problem and life are encouraging.

It’s a fast-paced read with a smooth flow of words. While the author shares about struggles, he shares the emotional side too, about Jeevan’s love life. How a person goes away from family, for family and how hard life becomes for them, knowing the fact that there are facilities provided to them but they can’t use them.

The story picks up really well in a few chapters. The way Jeevan’s life changed was really amazing to read. One thing that I loved about the story is it’s to the point. The climax will surely amaze you.

It’s a motivating story that covers an important topic.

Summary

The book presents us with the inspiring narrative of a young Jeevan, who has come a long way from home in search of work. Set in the western part of India, in the heart of one of the many ship breaking yards across the country, the book brings out both the personal and the social status of the workers into light, letting the audience into the mind and workings of a scrap yard employee and hoping to offer knowledge and awareness along the journey.
